Open Day – April 2012

Mannafields had an Open Day on Saturday 28th April between 2pm and 4pm at the school on Easter Road.

It was the first Open Day the school has had for sometime and we were all a bit nervous about what the response would be like. A lot of preparation went in to the day and we were very keen to share our experience of Christian Education with others.

To start with, information packs were sent out to a number of the City churches around Easter time. The pack included information about the School, the Open Day and included a copy of our leaflet asking “Why Christian Education“, produced from our article of the same name. Open Day flyers were also put up in Easter Road shops and businesses and school parents had flyers to give out wherever possible.

On the run up to the Open Day we organised extra cleaning and tidying to be done in the School. Displays were also spruced up or replaced with new work from the children.

The final set up tasks on Saturday started earlier for some than others. It was great to see so many of the parents involved on the day. Even some of the children rolled up their sleeves and got mucked in.

At 12:30pm we stopped for prayer. We took about 30 minutes just to bring the work of the School before the Lord. It is His work after all.

Finally, for the last hour before the doors opened, everyone just made sure things were in place.

2pm arrived!!

Well, actually it was about 1:45pm when we had our first visitor who came in for a quick chat about the School and what we teach. A great start.

Then 2pm really did arrive!!

For the next 2 hours there seemed to be a fantastic buzz around the School.

We had a steady flow of visitors who came, stayed for a while and had a good look around the School. Some valuable conversations took place about what we teach and how we teach it. There are no other schools in Edinburgh or the Lothians that teach our Christ centred curriculum. In that respect we are unique. Coupled with our small class sizes, flexible learning speeds, top quality teaching, loving family ethos and French lessons for all, we pray that more parents around the capital will catch the vision we have and seek a Christian education for their children.

Other than the important information we had for parents on the day, we wanted to make the Open Day an event to be enjoyed. To this end we also organised activities for the children that came along with their parents or grandparents. Activities we set up included:

  • Face painting
  • Skittles

  • Playground games
  • Crafts
  • Computer games
  • Science experiments

We also had a crèche for really wee ones and of course teas, coffees and cakes for anyone who wanted them.

All in all the Open Day was a roaring success and very encouraging to see so many people interested in what the School can offer them as parents for their children.

If you attended and are interested in Christian education for your children, or if you need information for the first time, please get in touch as we would be happy to answer any questions you have about what we offer here at Mannafields.
